Not in the distant land of Japan, but right in the heart of the Northwest mountains of Vietnam, there is a cherry blossom hill blooming brilliantly to welcome summer.

Cherry Blossoms Blooming on Fansipan Mountain

Sa Pa is famous for its lush terraced rice fields and cool climate year-round. Now, it adds a charming new highlight: cherry blossoms. On the majestic Fansipan Mountain, just over four hours from Hanoi, a vibrant cherry blossom hill awaits nature lovers and those who appreciate the pure beauty of this iconic flower of Japan.

These days, the weather on Vietnam’s highest peak is ideal for sightseeing cool air, clear blue skies, and golden sunshine stretching across the hills. Over 300 cherry trees at Sun World Fansipan Legend tourist area, from the clock tower to Mường Hoa train station, are in full bloom, painting a pink hue across the northwest sky.

Adapted well to Sa Pa’s cool climate, Fansipan cherry blossoms burst with vitality. Soft pink clusters stack upon each other, creating bright patches of color. Under the early summer sun, the flowers become even more dazzling, standing out against the blue sky like a miniature Japan amid the vast Northwest mountains.

Tourists enjoy leisurely walks admiring the flowers

Cherry blossoms on Fansipan begin to bloom from early April and last about a month. Many visitors take the opportunity to plan trips to Sa Pa during this period to witness the delicate yet captivating beauty of these flowers.

Not only cherry blossoms, but this is also an ideal time to admire the “Queen of Northwest Flowers” the vibrant rhododendrons on Fansipan’s summit. Among nearly 40 rhododendron species in Hoàng Liên National Park, Fansipan hosts 10 characteristic varieties, mostly growing at elevations from 3,000 to 3,143 meters. Notably, Sun World Fansipan Legend has developed a walking trail to view rhododendrons, allowing visitors to explore ancient, massive specimens with trunks and branches aged between 250 and 300 years at the mountain’s peak.

Rhododendrons on Fansipan typically start blooming in early spring, with some varieties lasting until October. At the mountain’s base, rhododendron-covered hills form a vibrant floral carpet welcoming visitors. However, this year, due to colder weather, the ancient rhododendrons are blooming later than usual, expected to reach full bloom at the end of April just in time for the April 30th – May 1st holiday promising breathtaking scenery for those visiting Fansipan.

In April, Fansipan hosts the lively “Rực rỡ giữa mây ngàn” (Brilliant Amidst the Clouds) Rose Festival, attracting many visitors. The festival’s highlight is Vietnam’s largest rose valley, covering an area of 50,000m², where exciting activities take place, such as flower parades, performances by ethnic artisans, and the Sweet Rose Market.

Stepping into the festival space, visitors feel as if they’ve entered a rose kingdom where nearly 300,000 rose bushes line the Mường Hoa mountain train route from Sa Pa town to Fansipan cable car station. Besides native heritage roses, the festival showcases many of the world’s prized rose varieties, including some of the most expensive such as Juliet, Aoi, Black Baccarat, Catalina, Golden Celebration, Maurice Utrillo, Rouge Royale, Éclair, and Spirit of Freedom. All are carefully tended and ready to bloom this summer, filling the space with enchanting scents and colors for visitors.
