My boyfriend and I did a 2-day trekking tour with Mé, who is a local Black H’mong tour guide. We walked between 10-15km each day through the Lao Chai and Ta Van villages. Mé tailored the trip exactly to what we wanted (more nature trails, away from most of the other tourists). Included in the tour was a bottle of water each day, lunch at a local restaurant (highly recommend trying the fried spring rolls – the rice paper was thinner than we’ve had before and they were amazing), and a taxi back to our hotel each day. She even gifted us some local crafts that she had made herself, which was such a special touch to end the trip. It was amazing to do the tour with a local who shared so much about Vietnamese and especially Black H’mong culture. I don’t think you can get a more authentic experience, and also at such a fair price. I would definitely recommend using a local tour guide (especially Mé) instead of booking through a tour company, as the guides earn more and you get a much more genuine experience.

We had the most incredible day. We were taken a little off the beaten track through some amazing villages, rice fields and forest. Our female local tour guide was knowledgeable, and was able to answer all of our questions regarding the area. We then had the most incredible lunch with her family.
